HBS Compliance is based in Cambridgeshire and managed by Simon Renshaw, a biotechnology professional with over 25 years experience with managing Human Biological Samples (HBS) under the Human Tissue Act (2004) to Human Tissue Authority (HTA) standards.
Simon first began working with HBS to HTA standards while working as a Biomedical Scientist in the histopathology labs at Addenbrooke's N.H.S. Trust, Cambridge, U.K.
He then went on to work for a well know Cambridge-based antibody company as a Senior Imaging Scientist, applying for their Research Sector HTA licence and fulfilling the role of Designated Individual (DI) for 15 years. During this time, he successfully navigated the company through 2 official HTA inspections.
Since 2022, Simon has been working for a globally renowned Cambridge-based pharmaceuticals company as an Associate Director in the HBS Compliance & Governance team. His role is purely HBS and HTA focussed, ensuring that HTA standards are continuously observed and exceeded, while putting donor ethics and informed consent at the forefront. In 2023, he lead a project to compliantly move over 150k HTA-relevant samples into the new headquarter building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and in 2024 was delegated responsibility from the DI to prepare for the official post-relocation HTA inspection, for which there were no findings.
Simon now wishes to offer his knowledge and expertise as a comprehensive consultancy service to other biotechnology and pharmaceutical Research Sector establishments, empowering them to achieve excellence with their Human Tissue Act (2004) compliance.
HBS Compliance: protecting donors, enabling science.
